‘The Information Age is expiring… The Storyteller Age is coming, where the appeal to our emotions and our feelings will play the key role in our lives.’ - Rolf Jensen
So what is a well-told Story?
The well-told Story has the power to transform people. By capturing the listeners’ imagination it can connect to their emotions and feelings encouraging them to envision themselves in the Story.
Unfortunately, in our modern society almost all information that we are exposed to sounds more like a Manual rather than a Story. This information is dry and factual consisting mostly of rules and regulations like ‘Don’t smoke! Don’t drink! Stay fit! Be perfect!’
In no way this type of information can be classified as a well-told Story.
In addition, the so much promoted uber-individualism created a huge imbalance in our lives; an imbalance that favours material over emotional satisfaction. It seems that even the rare moments of communication we still have consist of an exchange of commonplace discussions and trivialities about the presence or absence of material benefits in our lives. As a result, we have lost touch with our hearts, and our true feelings and emotions. And that’s exactly why we are in such a need of emotional Stories more than ever before.
The Storyteller is the Story.
Any well-told Story is an emotional presentation of information connected in certain succession where a Storyteller conveys certain emotions and creates an ambiance in which listeners can experience feelings of the narrator. With his help the listener can transform into a Character and start thinking like him, feeling his emotions, and reliving his experiences.
Well-told Stories help us find our own path and write our own Personal Stories. And that is why, sometimes, we give in to the power of a Storyteller and let him seduce us, ignoring the fact that not everything that is told by him is true.
